- We're trying to write some software that involves communication with
- modems. The task appears somewhat daunting because the software that I've
- used as an
- end-user involves choosing the brand name of the modem that I'm using. Is
- this necessary? If a modem uses a Hayes command set, then wouldn't simple
- communications be possible independent of the modem brand? I would think
- that the reason for being able to select the specific modem brand you're
- using is to take advantages of that modems features, thus making
- connections faster etc. If this is true, just how big an effort is this?
- Is there some database I can tap into or some other information source
- that will facilitate this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
